The bus and coach industry will be out in force at the NEC Birmingham next month – checking out the next wave of vehicles, technology, equipment, accessories and business services launching onto the market at Coach & Bus UK 2017.

The two day show, taking place on 4-5 October, is set to welcome over 6,000 attendees; including bus and coach operators, local authorities, and passenger transport providers from across the UK and Ireland.

Here’s just a taste of what’s new from the show’s 185 exhibiting companies:

Irizar UK launches its new I6S Integral, which brings levels of prestige and luxury previously only attained by its i8 Integral flagship, to the market.  Alongside it is the innovative i4H hybrid commuter coach, which has been proven to return 20% fuel savings in appropriate operations.  The flagship 14.07m tri-axle i8 Integral and best-selling 10.8m i6 Integral complete the display (stand F1).

Nu-Track is launching a new Euro 6, 22 passenger seat, wheelchair accessible bus at the show.  Built on the Mercedes Benz Sprinter chassis platform, this vehicle joins the already popular VW Crafter, in Nu-Tracks’ City Lift range.  The Mercedes Sprinter comes available with either manual or automatic transmission, and has an impressive GVW of 5500kg (stand D14).

Pelican Bus and Coach is exhibiting five vehicles at the show.  These include a Yutong TC12 51-seat coach, two Yutong TC9s, and a SAIC LDV V80 – converted to a very high spec minibus by Excel Conversions.  On display in the outside area will be the Yutong 100% zero emission, full electric, E12 ebus, which has been on trials with major bus operators since the start of 2017 (stand E40).

Mobile Onboard is previewing a new Real-Time Passenger Information (RTPI) system, launching on 31 October.  Beam SmartLink complements their existing smart ticketing and on-bus Wi-Fi line up of products – integrating with them seamlessly to provide real-time bus tracking, departure times, disruption updates, timetables, journey planning, and mobile ticketing (stand C22).

Eminox is unveiling new upgrades and technology options for its SCRT system, providing the first approved retrofit solution for London ULEZ and Clean Air Zones.  The new package includes CADi integration module and telematics, plus a new technology option, which will be on show for the first time at Coach & Bus UK (stand B10).

TruTac is launching its CPT Daily Checks App and management system exclusively at the show.  Designed specifically for the coach and bus industry, in conjunction with the CPT, the system covers first use and all daily driver checks, with clearly defined CPT approved templates.  CPT Daily Checks also seamlessly integrates with CPT Tacho Analysis.  CPT members who sign at the show will receive an additional 20% discount on 1st year fees (stand K4).

Vision Techniques is introducing a new form of cyclist detection technology at Coach & Bus UK.  VT TurnAware uses blind spot mounted cameras alongside video analytics to recognise approaching cyclists.  The internal CPU uses motion, speed and pixel density sensors to tell the difference between danger moving towards the vehicle and moving away from it.  Also showcasing: BrakeSafe – the award-winning handbrake failsafe system (stand B23).

Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership is launching its ‘Opportunities for Decarbonising Coaches’ report, which evaluates the impact of UK coach operations.  Established in 2003, LowCVP is a public-private partnership that exists to accelerate a sustainable shift to lower carbon vehicles and fuels, and create opportunities for UK business (stand N13).

Caetano, the leading manufacturer of buses and coaches in Portugal, is marking its 70th anniversary with the launch of a new electric chassis (visitors can find out more at 3.30pm on the show’s opening day, in an exclusive on stand presentation).  Also showcasing: the 14.3m version of the double deck INVICTUS, plus the new generation of Levante III (stand A1).

Freeway Fleet System is launching new software innovations for managing maintenance and compliance at the show.  These include a new 24 hour multi-screen sheet for workshop scheduling, compliance KPI auto-reports for DVSA Earned Recognition reporting, and an enhanced walk-around check app, which sends an electronic Vehicle Running Card to a driver’s smartphone (stand B11).

Phoenix Seating is launching its latest passenger safety solution – All Buckled Up, at the show.  This wireless Bluetooth seat belt alert system is designed specifically for the passenger market.  Visual and audible warnings instantly alert the driver of the unfastening of seat belts, alongside providing a quick and safe solution for identifying seats without buckled safety belts (stand D4).

Cameron Forecourt with Jigsaw FUEL Management is launching TELETAG at the show.  It provides a hands-free automated fuel pump control solution, completely removing the need for fobs, cards or manual data entry.  As the vehicle draws up to the pump, the tag is read, the vehicle identified, and the pump is turned on (stand M41).

Wheely-Safe / Michelin-Fit2Go are showcasing their new wheel and tyre safety systems.  Wheely Safe is introducing the very first wheel loss driver alert system, which also includes a brake/hub overheat and TPMS alert system.  Michelin-Fit2Go is promoting its new easy-to-fit, wireless TPMS system and revolutionary contactless pressure checker (stand C59).

Minis to Midis, the GB agent for Brian Noone of Ireland, is presenting eight examples from the Turas coach range, which has been further expanded for 2018.  Turas 500 offers 16-19 seats, Turas 600S up to 25 seats, Turas 700 up to 33 seats, and Turas 900 now ranges from 29-37 seats; including a new extended variant, encompassing V to S specification models with crossover options (stand N2).

Capte is introducing Capte BusKeeper, which launches on 1 October.  This all-in-one solution includes hardware and an online platform that enables bus fleet owners to have a complete, real-time overview of their buses; including drunk-driving attempt alerts, illegal bus start alerts, cardless tachograph driving, as well as other alerts from tachographs (stand C51).

Trailer Vision is promoting its newly-launched 360 degree birds-eye camera system.  Featuring a new ‘HD equivalent’ (HR/WDR) camera – a UK first – it eliminates all vehicle blind-spots (stand C6).

Ticketer is demonstrating the latest features of its next generation of Electronic Ticketing Machines.  They now give passengers the widest possible choice of multiple payment options, including cash, ITSO concession, and commercial and EMV contactless on a single reader, and an integrated QR reader for both paper-based and multi-supplier mTicketing.  It is also introducing a new passenger App, providing journey planning and ‘live’ stop-specific arrival times, fed from the Ticketer ETM; as well as the ability to buy mTickets (stand A30).

Unwin, an Autoadapt company, has updated its market-leading cassette lift.  The BraunAbility A-Series wheelchair lift now features a new anti-slip platform surface tailored to UK specification, whilst retaining all its original benefits; lowest weight to lift capacity on the market, smooth and silent operation, and automatic hydraulic roll stop (stand F3).

Licence Check recently launched a new Driving Licence Checking Qualification.  Whilst Licence Check’s online solution completes the necessary checks for organisations, it’s essential that the person managing driver compliance has a good understanding of how and what is being checked (stand H21).

TEK Seating is exhibiting a range of bus and coach driver seat options – including the new high spec NTS 2 truck seat from ISRI and USSC’s new high spec 9000 series driver seats.  The 9000 series is available in three options – full stroke air suspension, full stroke mechanical suspension, and a limited 1/2’’ suspension stroke mechanical soft static version (stand M42).

Mellor is showcasing its high capacity, low floor, Sprinter-based Strata LF.  The vehicle provides 2+2 seating and a large low floor section, with space for two wheelchairs.  Also showcasing: the low floor Tucana II bus, offering up to 15 seating capacity (stand L20).

Tecalemit Garage Equipment Co is exhibiting a range of commercial vehicle testing/servicing equipment, including its DVSA approved CV brake tester.  This heavy-duty unit is approved for all classes of MOT testing and has been designed specifically to meet the latest UK ATF testing requirements.  Also showcasing: new TBM/550 Mobile wheel balancer, which is suitable for all types of heavy commercial vehicle wheels (stand B3).

Liftmaster is exhibiting a new range of Hydraulic Wireless Mobile Column Lifts (at special show prices), with lifting capacities of 5500, 7500 and 8500 kgs.  Also showcasing: LTW Electro-mechanical mobile column lifts; new, low-cost, PC-controlled LMBT 13 Brake tester; and DVSA approved XL441 Brake tester for ATF test lanes (stand H48).

Baumot UK, a global exhaust after treatment specialist and preferred TfL supplier, is bringing its Milbrook-certified BNOx System to this year’s show.  The BNOx system can be fitted to Euro 4 and Euro 5 buses, and and can achieve emission levels better than Euro 6 (stand J31).

Zeta Automotive is promoting its fleet fuel saving system – EconoSpeed.  Independent trials, under controlled conditions at the Millbrook proving ground this summer, confirmed that fuel savings could be made in urban and inter urban driving conditions (stand M12).

Timespace Technology recently added a face/object-blurring tool to its PCLink CCTV footage review and analysis tool, which will help operators to meet their obligations under the forthcoming GDPR.  Also showcasing: the V500 hybrid recorder; and LANLink remote monitoring software, which provides fleet CCTV health information, vehicle CAN engineering data, email alerts and scheduled, alarm and CAN-triggered footage downloads (stand H41).

Uniroyal Global is showcasing its range of Ambla vinyl-coated fabrics.  In the high usage environment of transportation interiors, it offers robust surface performance and is a hygienic, cleanable product.  Complicated moquette designs can now be transferred to vinyl to match existing interiors (stand E47).

Cammax is demonstrating its latest photo printing smartcard vending machine, which enables users to collect or top up products onto their existing cards; or purchase a new smartcard.  If required, an identity photo can be taken, checked by the customer, and then printed onto the smartcard before it is dispensed (stand H35).

London Hire is showcasing one of its new Mercedes Sprinter, fully-wheelchair accessible, van conversions.  It highlights both passenger comfort and safety within its design, including a fully flat floor, climate control, and under floor tail lift (stand E10).

Mercury Fuel Systems is exhibiting Quicksilver AFI, its fully sequential, LPG injection BioLPG/Diesel dual fuel system, which can reduce NOx and Co2 by up to 45% and fuel costs by 8%-15%.  Also showcasing: diesel tanks and other fabricated parts, designed and developed for most coaches and buses up to, and including, Euro6 specification (stand D34).

SmartDrive Systems, is challenging this year’s visitors to ‘Spot the Risk’, using real-world footage of risky behaviours by bus and coach drivers behind the wheel.  It will be showcasing its SmartChoice programme, which allows fleet operators to choose which level of protection will best benefit their operation: SmartDrive Shield, SmartDrive Defender or SmartDrive Assurance (stand H26).

Synectics is showcasing its security and surveillance solutions for the transport market.  Connecting surveillance, transport and infrastructure together, via integrated systems, promotes passenger safety and increased security on vehicles, in depots and stations; ensuring that passengers remain safe and satisfied (stand N19).

Tachosys is exhibiting its latest tachograph products, including digiDL remote tacho for coaches.  digiDL completely automates Driver Card and Tachograph Unit downloads.  Available in 3G (SIM) or specific WIFI or LAN derivatives (stand B13).

MiX Telematics is exhibiting MiX Vision, RIBAS and MyMiX at Coach & Bus UK.  MiX Vision is a dual road-facing and driver-facing video recording system; RIBAS is an optional in-cab driving aid, which forms part of the Telematics Fleet Manager solution; and MyMiX is a unique portal for drivers, which enables them assess their performance against site averages for key statistics (stand G3).

Freight Transport Association (FTA) is showcasing Vision, its market-leading driver and fleet compliance platform, developed by industry experts to leverage insight to drive efficiency, cut costs and reduce risk (stand K31).
